Vintage TV and Films
“Vintage TV and Films” is one of my YouTube channels and will have, as you would suspect, films and TV programmes of a certain vintage. It has to be said that I have a penchant for old (50s & 60s) Sci-fi and horror. You have been warned. A list of some of the available videos is below.
A comprehensive list of films available on the channel is HERE.
Films not on my YouTube channel are available HERE
Sci-Fi & Horror
I love these films. Some are allegories for 1950s the cold war world anxiety. Others are just hokum. A few are important reflections on the human condition.
An eccentric millionaire throws a party for his wife in a haunted house offering each guest $10,000 if they can make it through the night. Only there seem to be schemes at work beyond what the ghosts have planned.
Made in 1959 this a fun film with Vincent Price playing, well, Vincent Price. Well worth watching.
The Yesterday Machine is one of those films that are so bad they are really very good. I am sure that it is the inspiration for Rocky Horror Show. There is the car that has broken down. The 2 youngsters begin to walk when they can not fix the car. There is an isolated house. The phrase “…there’s a light” in the dialogue of this movie, the song with this same title in Rocky Horror, occurring at the same relative point in both movies. It is all there. Surely Richard O’Brien saw this film?
So, to recap; The acting is wooden, the plot implausible, the script is dire and the direction almost non existent. What’s not to love? Grab some popcorn, turn your phone off, and glory in the very enjoyable hokum that is The Yesterday Machine!

What can you say about a true classic? It was the first zombie film to really break through. It spawned sequels and copies. It wrote the rules for zombie films that are still being followed. It was a low budget film made with family and friends and became of he great films.

This film is based on a novel published in 1951 by Stanislaw Lem. It is a German/Polish cold war film. Made in 1960 and was an expensive film. The effects were truly special in its day, although they look dated now. Variously dubbed and cut versions were also released in English under other titles: First Spaceship on Venus, Planet of the Dead, and Spaceship Venus Does Not Reply.

Made from another film with scantily clad women added to give a bit of oomph (but only a bit). This is classic B movie stuff!

Film Noir
D.O.A. has a relatively unknown cast with all the facets of a classic film noir. A very good example of the genre. A personal favourite of mine, so posting it on YouTube is self indulgent, but I don’t care! The structure of the film is interesting and invocative.

Vintage Silent Greats
A true classic! You may not have watched it but you know it. You will have seen clips from it. This has to be the most famous silent film ever made. At under 12 minutes long it really is unmissable.
