Woodturning
How I started Woodturning
I started woodturning a few years ago while I was staying with my good friend Roni. She has been a professional woodturner for 20 or so years. I was fascinated, but knew that I did not have a creative bone in my body. One visit I could not resist and asked her if I could have a go. Much against her better judgement, I am sure, she said yes and started teaching me.
She wanted to start with basic health and safety instruction, like don’t get your fingers too near the spinning wood, wearing a dust mask etc. She said things like “concentrate, for god’s sake concentrate!”, and, “stop waving that razor sharp gauge aboutI” Eventually, she let me turn the lathe on and took me through the process of how to make my first bowl.
I was amazingly, and completely disproportionately, proud of this little, unremarkable bowl! There is more about this first experience here on Roni’s blog.
Do look at Roni’s web site where she talks about all things woodturning and about her magical wildlife garden. Find her home page here.
I have a couple of photos that you might like to look at;
